So far, the has reported 11,054 cases and 17 deathsd in theUnited States. Of 547 confirmed and probable casees and four deaths are in That compareswith 10,053 cases and 17 deathes on June 1 and 8,9755 cases and 15 deaths on May 29. New York and Arizonza are tied with the highest number of followed by three in Illinois and Texas and one each in Utahand Washington. The World Healtbh Organizationreports 19,273 cased and 117 deaths in 66 countries, including the U.S. The CDC continuese to take aggressive action to reduce the spreadf and severity ofthe illness.
It originallu was called the swine flu because laboratory testa had shown that many of the genes in the new virusz were similar to influenza viruses that normally occur in pigs inNortn America. But further study has shown that the new viruws is different from what normallyy circulates in NorthAmerican pigs, so it is now beingf called the H1N1 flu. Healtnh officials recommend frequent hand washingg with soapand water, as well as avoidintg touching the eyes, nose or mouth. Sick employees are encouragexd to stay home to reduce the sprear ofthe flu.
