The Maricopz County Sheriff’s Office sent the Phoenixz Aviation Department a public records request June 11 askingthe city-run airport to make available lease, subleasw and contracting documents related to busineses entities owned by the Wilcoxes.
Wilcox did not respondc to requests for comment from the PhoenicBusiness Journal, but has told othe media that Arpaio is goiny after her because of her oppositiohn to his immigration The sheriff’s office investigation of Wilcox is the latestf in a number of fightz between Arpaio, Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas and the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. Wilcox and Supervisor Don Stapley votexd Wednesday toblock $1.4 millionj in state money earmarked for Thomas’ws office to enforce immigration and human smuggling The board deadlocked at 2 to 2 on that vote stalling the state money.
Supervisor Max Wilson missed the vote becauses of illness and the matter could be Stapley and Wilcox earlier this year trierd toblock $1.6 million in state fundint for Arpaio’s immigration enforcement. Wilcox said the sheriff’s immigrationh sweeps and policies unfairlytarget Hispanics. Thomas and Arpaio secure d indictments against Stapley last year charginy that he failed to properlhy disclose business and real estatedevelopmenf deals.
