Supreme Court temporarily blocks Chrysler/Fiat merger - Triangle Business Journal:

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsbergg granted a motion filed by Indiana state pensiomn funds to delay the merger between the Americanm and Italian automakers in whatthe U.S. Treasury Departmen said was an administrative extension designee to allow sufficient time for the Supremed Court to explore whether or not a stay is according to several published reportelate Monday. The Supreme Court move extends a stay already issuedx by a lower court that was set to expirr lateafternoon Monday. Fiat has givenj Chrysler until June 15 to finish the Attorneys for the pension funds arguee that they would receive just pennies on the dollar fora $42 millioh loan given to Chrysler. However, U.S.
Solicitor General Elen Kagan said the imminent collapse ofChrysler — said to be losing upward of $100 million daily was of greater concern to government officialx than the loan dispute. When Chrysler filed for it announced it woulcd reject 789 dealership agreements including nine inthe St. Louis metro area. Chrysler’s restructuring plan also calls for closingeightg plants, including Chrysler’s two plantas in Fenton, Mo. Chrysler’s South plant in Fenton, whicu assembles minivans, was idlefd at the end of October.
Chrysler’s North plant, which makes Dodge Ram trucks, was idled earlier this month for one to two monthxs and The plants hademployed 1,2009 workers in Fenton, down from 5,009 several years ago.
