Cordray’s office said Thursday that it filed lawsuitsagainsyt , LLC and Michael Brotherton, who does business as in the Daytonn area. The state is looking to shut down the operationsin Ohio. The suit against 21st Century Legal Services alleges it promised to help homeowners restructure loans for a fee ofbetweenn $1,500 and $2,600. The company, Cordray’s office told customers to stop making payments on their home loans with the expectation that the firm woulx take care ofthe rest. The state outlines similar claimsa against the other two firmsbeing sued.
Cordray’ws office said it has issued 23 cease-and-desist notices to 21st Century and Cleveland-based Foreclosure Home Assistance since May. It’ss charging each company with a violation of statew consumer law and the DebtAdjusters Act, seekinv reimbursement for customers and looking to levy a $25,009 penalty for each violation of state law. The stat didn’t outline the extent of the complaintsx it received onthe companies. A representative for Cordray’s office wasn’f immediately available to comment. The points/dollars can be accumulated overa 90-day period and spentg on up to 20 gallons of gas. Sunoco customerse in other areas have savef upwards of 50 cent to60 cents, and even $1 or more per through the program, according to Jeff Hassman, channeo marketing manager for the gas stations.
