Atlanta-based and Charlotteville, Va.-based reported their plans for the propertty at 222 Mitchell but they did not disclose financial termws ofthe deal. The 350,000-square-foot structurew was built in stages from 1929 to 1979on 2.1 acre s and occupies the entire city blockk bounded by Spring, Forsyth, Mitchell and Nelson Streets. Orindq and Octagon will convert the property into a rental buildint with 205 loft units and morethan 70,000 square feet of commerciak space. Occupancy is expected in January 2011.
“Ther redevelopment of 222 Mitchell Street into rental loftw and retail space will play a significan t role in the rebirth of this part of downtown Atlanta,” said Dillon Baynes, president of Orinda, in a statement. “We’rre certain that living at 222 Mitchel Street will appeal to young professionals who work as well as tocollege students, especiall those who already attend one of the many fine institution in the area, such as Georgiw State University, Spelman, Morehouse, Clark Atlants University and Georgia Tech.
